During the summer of 2007 The Preuss School UCSD redesigned their website. As part of the website redesign requirements Preuss needed to incorporate a dynamic events calendar, standards compliant XHTML/CSS templates, and a simplified content management system to manage their content.
Budget constraints prevented us from using a full–featured content management system with a built–in calendar system so we needed to be creative in how we approached the solution.
I recommended we use the Google Calendar API to integrate a user–friendly calendar system into the website. To help manage their website templates and content I proposed we build a simplified PHP templating system to help manage the web site. Both suggestions were approved and I led the effort to implement them.
InfoTAP hired me to work with their design firm, Naranjo Design, to convert the the design comps into standards compliant templates. Steve Kirk at PRK Kreative used the Google Calendar API to integrate events data into the web site and built the PHP framework to manage the templates & content. Additionally, I led the project management efforts of the project, provided instruction to the client on how to use the calendar system, trained the client on how to maintain the website using the PHP template framework, and led the internal quality assurance testing.
